Introduction
As we built MyApps, our upcoming app deployment tool, we needed a way to store and manage container images inside the Katapult ecosystem.
A container registry was the missing piece... so, we built one.
Once we had it, we figured: why not make it available to everyone?
Now, it’s yours to use - if you want it.
What makes Katapult Container Registry (KCR) different?
Container registries aren’t new. But we wanted to make sure the KCR kept things simple, transparent, and Katapult-native:
Seamless integration with Katapult: If you’re already using Katapult for your cloud infra, keeping your container images close means faster pulls and lower latency.
No hidden fees, just pay for storage & usage: Unlike some providers, KCR has no extra fees, just pay for the storage and bandwidth you use.
Security-first by default: All data is encrypted at rest, helping teams meet GDPR and compliance requirements without extra hassle.
More than just containers: KCR is OCI-compliant, meaning it can store Helm charts, SBOMs (Software Bill of Materials), and other OCI-supported artifacts, making it a flexible choice for modern cloud-native development.
Do you need a Container Registry? Maybe.
- If you already have a setup you love, keep using it.
- If you want something simple, secure, and UK-based, give it a go.
- If you’re using Katapult and Kubernetes, this might save you time & money.
What’s next?
KCR is live now, and we’re already thinking about what’s next. We’re working on features like Vulnerability Scanning, SBOM generation, and Signature Verification to provide greater security insights and help meet industry best practices. Ready to give it a go?
